The Sustainable Turn
Why I Chose Ecovero for Sighthound Tales
Hello everyone, and welcome back!
It’s been a while since the last update—not out of neglect, but because I wanted to take the necessary time for a fundamental decision: finding the perfect fabric that truly embodies the soul of Sighthound Tales.
As you know, this project was born from the desire to create elegant accessories that celebrate the special bond between humans and sighthounds, always with respect for the environment. And on that, I couldn’t compromise.
The Rethink: When “Good” Isn’t Good Enough
At first, I had chosen a recycled twill, a choice that looked virtuous on paper. But when the prototype scarf arrived, alongside the joy of seeing my ideas come to life, a doubt surfaced that I couldn’t ignore.
The fabric was stiff and rough to the touch, a technical issue linked to the excessive weight of the twill, but most importantly, it still contained virgin polyester and released microplastics when washed. For a project that wants to support nature and rescue sighthounds, this contradiction was unacceptable.
That’s when I realized: it wasn’t enough to do “better than average.” I had to do what felt truly right, even if it meant starting over.
The Search: From Local Traditions to Certifications
I intensified my research in the Como area, historically tied to high-quality textile production. It was during these meetings that I discovered the potential of Lenzing’s Ecovero viscose, a material that completely changed my perspective.
Ecovero:
Wood fibers from FSC
-50% water and CO₂
Fiber identification system to guarantee authenticity
Why Ecovero Represents a Leap Forward
Ecovero is not just “a sustainable fabric.” It’s the result of a systemic approach to sustainability:
Responsible raw material: Wood fibers from FSC-certified forests
Optimized production process: -50% water and CO₂ emissions compared to conventional viscose
Full traceability: Fiber identification system to guarantee authenticity
Certifications: EU Ecolabel and top score in Canopy’s Hot Button Ranking for forest protection
But beyond the numbers, what struck me most was Lenzing’s philosophy. “Naturally positive” is not just a slogan, but an approach aimed at maximizing the efficiency of every resource used.
The Impact on Quality: Substance and Form in Harmony
From a technical standpoint, Ecovero solved all the issues of the previous twill:
Soft and pleasant hand feel
Elegant drape, perfect for scarves and twillies
Excellent color absorption for vibrant prints
Strength and durability without compromise
This means that sighthound owners will have accessories that not only tell a story of sustainability but are also a pleasure to wear and use every day.
An Ethical Choice, Not Just a Technical One
I’m well aware that even more advanced materials exist from an environmental point of view. But every path toward change begins with concrete and consistent choices. For me, Ecovero represents a “first conscious step” toward a future where beauty and ethics are no longer in conflict.
For Sighthound Tales, this choice means:
Alignment between declared values and concrete actions
Premium quality without environmental compromises
Transparency in process communication
Continuous evolution toward increasingly sustainable solutions
The Future: Growing While Staying the Course
Once the project has solid foundations, I won’t hesitate to experiment with even more innovative fabrics. But today, Ecovero represents the choice most in line with my values and the mission of Sighthound Tales.
I hope this journey excites you as much as it excites me. Every future purchase won’t just be about acquiring an accessory, but about joining a project that believes in meaningful change.
I invite you to follow this journey: step by step, choice by choice, we’re building together a different way of doing business—one that puts beauty at the center, without ever forgetting responsibility.
The next update will (hopefully) come with the first images of the Ecovero prototypes. I can’t wait to share the results of this choice with you.
